Crocus in bloom

You simply have to see it!

The majestic trio of the Eiger, Mönch and Jungfrau rises impressively above the vibrant sea of crocuses. Hundreds of tiny purple and white flowers herald the arrival of spring on the Niederhorn. A breathtaking sight that delights many hikers and nature lovers every year.

As soon as the snow on the Niederhorn melts away, the first tiny purple and white flowers cheekily stretch their heads towards the sun. They are the first harbingers of summer and herald the arrival of spring on the Niederhorn. And they do so every year with great vigour. Tens of thousands of them sprout from the ground and soon a carpet of flowers covers the slopes of the Niederhorn.

The crocus bloom begins in the region around the Vorsass middle station, Vorsass and Flösch. Later, the crocuses sprout near Oberburgfeld and on the ridge path towards Burgfeldstand. Depending on the year and the snow depth, different hiking trails to the various spots are recommended, and the blossoms are always at a different stage of bloom. As we receive numerous calls every year, we have set up a crocus tracker.

Crocus Tracker

There is currently still too much snow on the Niederhorn.

As soon as the first crocuses start to bloom, we’ll keep you updated here.
